About last summer… which lead to about Friday night…

Sometimes people ask me why I pursue this creative work of #image #consulting. It’s long hours, a lot of responsibility, and forces you out of your comfort zone as you try to help people find versions of their best self.

I do it to combine my #energy with individuals to create something #beautiful and see where it can grow from there.

I always have an amazing time shooting @seanjonesmusic with @annakeenan_photography, but this one just felt special, as we all knew that Sean had some big plans.

The pic of Sean in front of the @harbourfrontcentre was a suggestion by Anna in an attempt to manifest Sean locking in his bid to perform on the Harbourfront Theatre stage. Well, that event happened on Friday Feb. 10th, and it was an amazing night of great music and tremendous performances, with a couple laughs mixed in.

What was the most special part for me? Witnessing Sean speak his dream into existence and seeing what creative energy can do when it combines with others to create something beautiful.

Make your energy multiply with others. Then sit back and watch the ripples.

Whether you're a singer, writer, painter, musician or photographer, no artist is an island unto themselves. There are always lessons and blessings we can take from each other, and in many cases, it's through these meaningful experiences that we grow.

I am honoured to finally have been able to capture a moment in time with Sean Jones and to meet and work with his stylist, Chris. They both came and led with such kindness, compassion and humility. It was like reconnecting with an old friend that I hadn’t seen for a while. We had an instant connection that was lovely. I have no doubt part of that stemmed from our beautiful and mutual community of friends. Sean, I can't wait for you to share more of your music with the world.

A couple of months ago, I completed my 3rd presentation to colleagues on Racial Equality. The plan was to help find the fastest path past hurt, anger, guilt, disbelief, straight through to mobilization and action.

A part of the recommended actions I gave was to explore the ethnic businesses in your neighbourhood and support local minority owned businesses. I think it’s only right that I take my own advice.

@SDhtoronto’s designs are thought- and conversation-provoking (like the black shirt I’m wearing in the last shot). We need to keep this conversation going to keep the movement progressing forward, and that’s what Sandra D. Hamilton and her family are doing with this line geared to all those who may be judged by their “colour” and those who ally for racial justice.

@ceetoronto is a Toronto-based charity dedicated to addressing economic and social barriers affecting black youth (18-29). They offer programs to improve their careers, education, and empowerment (CEE) that are holistic, person-centered, and culturally relevant.

We are SO excited to drop the "See Colour" campaign on August 1st! YES! Emancipation Day! It's all about how we need to see colour on all of us to ensure we all understand and protect each other. Words that are said to Bipoc individuals have impact. Let's keep that impact positive by talking about and understanding race.
There is no shame in talking about race! Let's do it!

How this campaign began:
When I was at work in 2020, I was blatantly, racially discriminated against. When you are a Bipoc person, the feeling never leaves you. I was angry. Very angry. How could this be happening? It was so frustrating! I think the worst part of it was that the person who racially discriminated me did not seem to think what they were doing anything wrong.
.
This campaign exists to open up opportunities to talk about race. There is no time to feel uncomfortable. If you say the wrong thing, be open to receive a different way of stating what you just said. It will be hard, but in the big picture, it will save lives.
.
When we wear the "See Colour" t-shirt, there may be questions asked about it. This will be your time to engage, and this will be your time to shake off the feeling of being uncomfortable.
.
I hope this got through to someone out there. I'm just a regular person, doing my part to dismantle racism. What part are you playing?

Honestly, never met someone so chill. We put in work all day on this shoot (into the early morn). With a muse like Kreesha, you want to capture every look, and feel the energy each one brings out of her.
